On June 26, 2014, Patty presented at the Idaho Hospital Association HEN (Hospital Engagement Network). She spoke about Shared Decision Making, Informed Consent and how implementing a Patient and Family Partnership Advisory Council has meaningful and longstanding repercussions in the areas of quality and patient safety.
Michael’s story clearly moved all in attendance and prompted the group to reflect on how informed consent is handled at each of their facilities. Spirited debate ensued and concerns were raised and addressed with Patty’s input. Ultimately, what was planned to be a one hour discussion lasted two hours!
In particular, the session on the importance of a working Patient and Family Council really sparked a great deal of interest and we hope that Idaho hospitals will fully embrace implementation of this method of involvement.
